IMPROVING YOUR ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS

1.  Be prepared ahead of time.  For example, before going to bed at night,
plan what you are going to wear tomorrow and have all required materials for the day ready to go.
2.  Use colour-coded file folders to organize your tasks and assignments.
For example, you might use a different colour file for each day of the week.
3.  Use a date/day book to keep track of deadlines for all projects and assignments.
Keep this book with you all the time and always write down anything that you need to
remember to do.  Check the book often to ensure that you are aware of all approaching deadlines.
4.  Use a daily "TO DO" list.  Prioritize what you have to do and start with your most
difficult tasks.  Enter approximate times for completing each task.  Whenever you
complete a task on your TO DO list, cross out the item to show it is completed.
5.  Have a specific place where you keep things.  For example, always put your keys
in the same place and you will never waste time looking for them again.
6.  Enter your most frequently used telephone numbers into
your telephone memory so they are always quickly available.
7.  Use a drawer organizer to keep track of things such as
scissors, paper clips, glue, pens, pencils, etc.
8.  Back up your computer files on a regular basis.
9.  Every time you buy something new, get rid of something old.
10.  Leave so you will arrive early.  In the same way, schedule
more time to complete tasks than you think they will take.
